Local film maker up for best documentary at the Vimeo Awards

Mikey Livingston"Welcome To Planet Earth"

Local film maker Mikey Livingston and his digital short "Welcome To Planet Earth" has been nominated for best documentary at this years Vimeo Festival + Awards.

Livingston, a local photographer and film maker, has drummed up the attention of the popular video site Vimeo. His documentary film "Welcome to Planet Earth," has made the cut from thousands of online documentaries to be featured in Vimeo Festival + Awards top twelve for that particular category.

Welcome to Planet Earth is the story of the extremely unique Jody Pendarvis and his 30 foot UFO he built in his front yard in the small town of Bowman, SC. After a sighting of alien life forms, Jody built the giant UFO as a place to welcome aliens when they return. All though visitors are welcomed to check out this unique and slightly odd landmark, Jody hopes that he will one day see the return of his friends from the sky.

The Vimeo Festival + Awards recognizes the best videos online, determined not by how many people in the world had seen them, but by how they moved people and helped people see deeper into the world. Even though each category is served by a panel of judges, community voting holds the strongest hand in the awards process. You can vote once a day in each category.

If Livingston can edge out the competition, Vimeo will award a grant of $5,000 for a future documentary. He will also be in line for a chance of $25,000 (the prize money to be given to the winner of the Best Video Award). The Awards will take place at NYU Skirball Center in New York City, June 8-9.
