From a nomination pool of 37 professors, University of South Carolina Beaufort Professor  Babet Villena-Alvarez has earned the title "South Carolina Governor's Professor of the Year."

Villena-Alvarez is the chair of the Department of Humanities and Fine Arts and teaches French, Spanish and Global Studies. Dr. Alvarez was USCB's "Professor of the Year" in 1998.
