Building a trail to make #MYR great

The criteria by which the media and research institutions judge a city's "greatness" varies. However, if you really look, there are a few overlapping areas on everybody's list. A major one is 'close proximity to outdoor spaces'.

While many consider Myrtle Beach to have a great number of outdoor spaces, it's the diversification of those spaces that truly stand out. What Myrtle Beach is lacking are spaces specific to running, walking, hiking and bicycle trails. The Waccamaw Trail Blazers are looking to change that.

This mountain biking club located in Myrtle Beach has been advocating to county and city officials for s multi-purpose trail system throughout Horry County.  This initiative also promotes a healthier Horry County.,

Currently the Waccamaw Trail Blazers maintain the Jackson Bluff/Cox Ferry Waccamaw Refuge trails off of 544.  They're also working with the City of Myrtle Beach to open up a trail system around the Market Common, however, due to liability issues, those trails are on hold.

Now that landowners and city/county officials are requiring volunteer trail builders to carry an insurance policy to cover that liability, the Waccamaw Trail Blazers are putting together a donation drive.

Marshal Brown, club president of the Waccamaw Trail Blazers says:

Myrtle Beach is a great city. We want to make it better. Building additional trails in Horry County will serve the area in many positive ways. We are asking for residents to donate to the continued efforts of making our area great.

A 501c3 non-profit all-volunteer organization, the Waccamaw Trail Blazers are reaching out to the residents of Horry County, asking for donations to cover their newly required insurance policy. If you want to help join their efforts to make our city "great," you can do so by donating below.
