Located on the College of Charleston grounds is an odd tree, the Japanese blueberry. While it does well here in Charleston it seems to be our only one. The tree also produces a blue, olive-like fruit that can be mashed and baked into an oily cake or pickled like olives.

Get the scoop on this oddity over at The Post and Courier.

I’ll be checking it out later today, but I doubt it will hold a candle to my favorite fruit-producing Lowcountry tree, the loquat.
