The agency’s “Pledge for Growth” initiative includes a Web site — www.PledgeforGrowth.com — that offers suggestions and allows users to commit to one or more efforts related to land, air, water and people.

The SPA said a pledge “can be something simple, such as expanding a recycling program, or a larger effort, such as … replacing equipment and vehicles with newer, more environmentally sensitive models.”

There’s more to the Port of Charleston than just cargo, ships, trucks and trains. In fact, the Port has taken on one of the state’s largest environmental efforts to date — and was one of the first in the nation to consider “people” impacts. Among its efforts, the Port is restoring and adding 22 acres of tidal marshes, reducing port-related air emissions and funding an air monitoring station, partnering with Wildlife Trust to protect the Northern Right Whale and much more.
