Earlier this year came the sad word that the City of Beaufort had to remove its Christmas tree.

The Leyland cypress tree was diseased and dying at its home in Freedom Park on Bay Street — but now the tree has been replaced with a young and far smaller 15-foot tree.

However the tree is expected to grow fast, and it will be in place for the Night on the Town tree lighting this December 7.
