Savannah port and economic development leaders met Thursday and warned time is running out to deepen the Savannah Harbor in order to serve ships that will come through the widened Panama Canal.
It's a pretty complex issue, and one that is tied to the potential Jasper Port in South Carolina, but the basics are that Savannah won't be able to serve the larger, post-panamax ships that will be widely used come 2014 if the harbor isn't deepened.
This impacts the economies of both coastal Georgia and S.C.
