Beaufort police look to bikes for more thorough and effective patrols

Bikes may not do as well as a police cruiser when it comes to responding to calls across town, but when patrolling smaller pedestrian heavy areas, an officer on a bike can often engage more quickly — and more stealthy.

And The Island Packet says that's just what the Beaufort Police Department is hoping for with an upcoming round of bicycle patrol training.
