Bike racks sprouting up around town

In a joint initiative to decrease the number of bicycles being locked to city lampposts, the town of Beaufort and at County bicycling-advocacy group called Pathways Connect are planning to place ten new bicycle racks around town.

According to a report from the Island Packet, the need for more bicycle racks was driven by a concern that there were few safe spaces for cyclists to park their bikes in the downtown area. Six of the "u-shaped" racks have been installed since January, while the other four are due to be fully in place soon.
