Although its expected to make landfall hundreds of miles away from Beaufort County, Hurricane Earl - now a Category 3 - could still have an impact on Hunting Island in terms of beach erosion and downed trees.
This is nothing new for Hunting Island officials, who have dealt with these issues for years. A quick search of The Island Packet archives will uncover more stories on washed out roads, destroyed cabins and severe beach erosion than you'll have time to read.
WSAV has a nice report on what Hunting Island staff is expecting this time around. Check it out below.
The Island Packet also has a report on Beaufort Emergency Management officials getting together yesterday to keep an eye on Earl. Check it out here.
