A Saturday, April 21, car accident just before 8 p.m. left the driver and front passenger dead, and injured a third teenage girl in the back seat.

The car had veered off Seaside Road on St. Helena Island and slammed into a tree [map below]. The two teens who died have been identified as Beaufort High School students, driver Chelsie Pitruzella, 18, and Kayleeana Hudson-Banks, 15. The third teen has not been identified.

The Island Packet has a solid news report (read that here) and WTOC 11 has an interview with a man who heard the crash and rushed to help the third girl from the car (read that here).

There's no word about what caused the accident but all three teens are believed to have been wearing seat belts.

Update April 24: Vigil

On Monday night friends and family gathered to remember Pitruzella and Hudson-Banks.

WTOC 11 has a quick video from the vigil (watch that here) and The Island Packet has a written report with details on visitations (read that here).

The third teen who was injured has been identified as Megan Trimmer, 17.
