Avondale 5K Run & Walk

The 4th Annual Avondale 5K Run + Walk

Lace up your running shoes for the 4th Annual Avondale 5K Run + Walk for Special Kids happening Saturday, October 12th benefitting The Charles Webb Center. The Avondale 5K is the 6th largest 5K in Charleston! Last year’s race brought in 450 participants and nearly $50,000 for the CWC. With the community’s help, the goal is to top that this year! Carolyn Murray, WCBD News 2 anchor and former Avondale resident, will be on-hand to kick off this year’s race which begins at 8:30am. Murray not only is an avid runner, she also is a huge supporter of the local community.

Starting on Magnolia Road in front of Triangle Char and Bar, Avondale 5K runners and walkers will make their way through the lovely streets of the Avondale neighborhood in West Ashley. Strollers and dogs are welcome! The After Race Party starts as soon as participants cross the finish line. Triangle Char and Bar is hosting the party complete with live music, all inclusive food and drinks. Awards and prizes will be given at the After Party.

Hosted by the Avondale Business Association and Triangle Char and Bar, all proceeds from the Avondale 5K benefit The Charles Webb Center. The Charles Webb Center is a non-profit, day care center that serves children from age 6 weeks to 10 years old who have developmental disabilities and special needs. The Center is under the umbrella of the Disabilities Board of Charleston County and is located at 1611 Evergreen Street, behind Bessinger’s BBQ on Savannah Highway.

In an aggressive effort to raise awareness about the children of the Charles Webb Center, runners and walkers have the option to “Sponsor a Child”. This allows participants to choose a specific child to run/walk for. They can create teams and get sponsors. For the team with the highest amount of funds raised in the name of a child, Triangle will throw them a private party for 25 with drinks and food! Last year’s winning team, “Anna Blake” brought in nearly $6,000!

The top winners in all categories will take home a unique recycled glass trophy donated by the Avondale Business Association. All attendees and participants are asked to recycle wherever possible using provided bins. If you do drive, please park in designated parking spaces and NOT on the race course. The Avondale 5K’s presenting sponsor is Bi-Lo, with many other generous local businesses also sponsoring the race. Please visit www.avondale5k.com for a complete list of this year’s sponsors or to find out how you can be one!
