Folly Boat gets a fresh canvas

After 13 years of paint-overs, the five-inch thick layers of paint and messages finally started crumbling off the Folly Boat — so the city stepped up and stripped off the excess paint to give the iconic boat a new canvass, and to keep the paint out of the marsh.

ABC News 4 caught up with the changing of the guard and has some nice video; check it out over here or down below.

Don't be too upset that the messages are gone, back in 2008 we mentioned a website devoted just to the boat with hundreds of photos, FollyBoat.com.

The boat washed up in the spot when Hugo hit in 1989 and no one ever claimed it. Thus, in typical beach fashion, everyone started painting it year after year until a new tradition was born. Read more about the boat on FollyBeach.com
