End of an era: Alex's Mt. Pleasant location closes up shop

It was nearly three years ago that there were the first tremors of instability in Alex's Mount Pleasant diner.

But some shake-ups in the building's appearance, hours, and menu seemed to stabilize things — but that period is long gone now, and the building sold to new owners — the folks behind the Okra Grill restaurant currently just up the street.

(Observant readers will note this news comes just a few months after the longtime Hungryneck Antique Mall closed to make way for Trader Joe's.)

A message posted to Alex's Facebook wall reads, "Well it is done, Alex's in Mt. Pleasant has been sold. Thanks to all our loyal customers for 40 amazing years. We have been blessed with love over the years. I will miss everyone, thanks again. Debbie Jackson."

If you want to know more, I'll shoot you over to The Post and Courier for a nice background report; read it here.

Also, good news for the other Alex's restaurants: They all seem due to stay open.
