Charleston's Mellow Mushroom owners say renting on King Street is no longer an option for their business.  As of January 29th, at 3 p.m., owners Michael
Shem-Tov, Johnny Hudgins, and Joshua Broome will be the proud owners of the restaurant's building on 309 King Street.

A recent press release cites rising rents and "the looming national economic crisis" as reasons for the purchase.  Owners stated that Mellow Mushroom will now be free "to operate on King
Street for as long as King Street is here," with "nothing to jeopardize our ability to do so".

The building dates back to the early 1900's; and was purchased  from previous owner Mathew Kaiser for an undisclosed amount.
