Charleston naval engineering facility closes
Having been in a decline of presence for many years, Charleston's Naval Facilities Engineering Command closed up shop in Charleston altogether on Friday.
Of the 450 that were once employed by the facility only some 55 left Charleston and made the transition to the new headquarters in Florida.
The facility survived the 1990s base closures, but got hit in the 2005 closures.
