myPhoneMD, a company that specializes in smartphone parts, repairs and accessories, today opened its newest store at 471 King Street in downtown Charleston. During the grand opening, company officials hinted at expansion plans for South Carolina, and beyond.
Shattered screens, cracked LCDs, broken buttons and other troubling setbacks are among the many repairs available at myPhoneMD stores. Since opening its first of five stores in Louisiana in March 2009, the company has generated buzz with its “CPR” technique, or Cell Phone Resuscitation. myPhoneMD meets a growing need among consumers: to restore their cracked, waterlogged and otherwise damaged smartphones to order.
Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. (a smartphone user), Metro Charleston Chamber of Commerce members, business leaders and others joined myPhoneMD officials at today’s announcement.
“Think of myPhoneMD as the emergency room to revive your smartphone after it sustains almost any type of damage that makes it unusable,” said Conrad Green, co-founder of myPhoneMD. “We see the desperation and nervousness in our customers’ faces when they walk in the door and then they are relieved after we tell them it can be fixed in a few minutes,” explained company co-founder Jeff Lyons.
The Charleston store will be managed by Colin Colbert and has been established by Jeff Birnbaum and Phillip Manchester, real estate developers with ties to Charleston and Louisiana.
“King Street is the perfect place for myPhoneMD’s first venture out of Louisiana,” said Colbert. “We have the perfect blend of business people, students, visitors and everyday smartphone users who can’t wait a week or more to get their life back on track.”
