Buxton Books, a local bookstore and literary tour company, has signed on to host the highly anticipated writer’s showcase at the inaugural Southern Women’s Show in Charleston, from September 23 to 25. The writer’s showcase will run throughout the show, and each day will include meet-and-greets and book signings with various local and national authors.
“Storytelling will never go out of style,” said Stacy Abernethy, the executive show manager for both the Nashville and Charleston shows. “The authors coming to the show are some of the best storytellers around, and to have them together, sharing their stories, it’s truly remarkable.”
The first day includes appearances from Janet Lee Berg, author of Rembrandt's Shadow, Rose Tomlin, the author of Duel of the Heart from Evening Post Books, and Girls Night Out Featured guests, Kristy Woodson Harvey, author of Dear Carolina and Lies and Other Acts of Love and blogger for “My Design Chic,” an award-winning interior design blog. Friday will also feature a panel of four beloved and bestselling authors, who will share water-themed stories, essays and poems honoring the thousand-year flood that hit South Carolina in 2015.
Saturday includes appearances from Diana Hollingsworth Gessler, author of Very Charleston, Wendy Pollitzer, author of Salt and Iron, Kim Boykin, author of southern-inspired novels such as The Wisdom of Hair, Palmetto Moon and Sweet Home Carolina, as well as Sarah Gunn and Julie Starr of Tunic Bible, the must have book for those who sew or want to sew. This delightful book shows you how to sew the perfect tunic to express your style—from simple and modest to daring and chic.
Rounding out the showcase on Sunday will be Judy Watts, author of the hilarious Living with Wiener Dogs and Guys Too!, Rosalind Bunn, author of Whose Shadow Do I See? and Andrea Weathers, author of the popular children’s adventure series, Hermy the Hermit Crab.
In addition to hosting the writer’s showcase, Buxton Books will be registering guests for prizes and tickets to their popular walking tours. They will also have a bookstore available for attendees to get a jump-start on holiday shopping.
More than 300 exhibitors and celebrity guests will also be involved with the show, including Nathalie Dupree, a James Beard Award-winning author. She will be on the Food Lion Stage Saturday and Sunday, showcasing her famous shrimp and grits recipe.
Tickets are $12 at the door, $10 online at SouthernWomensShow.com and $8 at area Walgreens. Hours for the show are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
