Chase After a Cure Hosts New Team Fundraiser, Bowling After a Cure

Even if you don’t know the difference between a “strike” and a “split,” you can help in the fight against childhood cancer at the first Bowling After a Cure. Chase After a Cure, which raises money for childhood cancer research, is hosting a team fundraising event and celebration from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, April 26 at Sparians in Mount Pleasant.

Each team will consist of a team captain plus five or six team members. Prior to the event, teams will fundraise for Chase After a Cure either online via Crowdrise.com or with pledge forms. Each individual bowler is required to raise at least $100; teams are required to raise a minimum of $500. Anyone can attend and watch the teams bowl and individuals are encouraged to make donations at the event.

Teams will celebrate with an afternoon of free bowling at Sparians, pizza and prizes for the top three fundraising teams. There also will be a prize for the most creative fundraiser among the teams.

Cancer is the No. 1 cause of disease-related death among children. About 13,500 children between birth and age 19 are diagnosed with cancer each year. Just at the Medical University of South Carolina, about 70 children are diagnosed with pediatric cancer annually. Money raised at Bowling After a Cure benefits research being done at the Medical University of South Carolina Children’s Hospital. This research laboratory is the only such lab in South Carolina dedicated to translational pediatric cancer research, specifically neuroblastoma, which has one of the lowest survival rates of all pediatric cancers and is the third most common cancer among children.

Since its founding, Chase After a Cure has raised more than $705,000 for research and equipment at MUSC.
