The Edisto Island Open Land Trust has relocated their annual oyster roast to a thrilling new location this year – historic Sunnyside Plantation!  The fundraising event takes place on Sunday, November 3rd at 2:00pm.  Attendees will enjoy all the features of a traditional lowcountry oyster roast at a unique historical Edisto Island plantation that has been permanently protected by the Edisto Island Open Land Trust.

Built around 1870, Sunnyside Plantation is a beautiful post-bellum home listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is situated on tiny island on picturesque Store Creek.  The island at one time had a cotton gin where the tabby foundation still remains, and a barn that has been recently renovated.  Sunnyside is significant as one of the few remaining, relatively intact, immediate post-Civil War Sea Island cotton plantations on Edisto Island, and since it is privately owned and used as a residence, this is a fantastic way to experience the property. 

The Oyster Roast will feature local band Edisto Gumbo and Jamie Westendorff, of Charleston Outdoor Catering will serve up his famous steamed oysters, along with a buffet of fried chicken and all the fixins’.  You and your friends can enjoy a beautiful fall afternoon, eat delicious oysters, and hear great live music at Sunnyside Plantation.  So mark your calendars for Sunday, November 3 at 2 PM.  Advance tickets on sale now; $30/EIOLT Members, $45/Non-members, Children under 6 are free.  For complete details and tickets go to www.edisto.org, or call 843-869-9004.
