According to this post in the Sun News Opinion Blog, approximately 60 percent of Horry County students live below the poverty level. Help4Kids provides weekend meals for over 2000 children, recently expanding their effort to distribution at 20 schools.
At this time of year, Help4Kids is looking for donations of non-perishable food, coats, shoes, socks, warm clothing, and volunteer time. The organization is associated with Horry County's United Way and works with teachers to identify the needs of families.
