No Lowcountry Strawberry Festival for 2012

With April comes strawberry season, and with that usually comes a mid-April Lowcountry Strawberry Festival at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant.
However the rides, games, food, and general fun will go on hiatus for 2012.
The organizers write that, "The road construction presently underway would make it difficult to get the large numbers of vehicles on and off Hwy. 17 that the festival would bring. But we do plan for the festival to be back next year in full swing."
Still, if you've got a craving for some strawberry picking, the U-Pick strawberry fields are open — or you can just buy a pre-picked basket. Entrance to the U-PIck fields will be on Long Point Road for the 2012 season from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Saturday.
