Don't let the threat of thunderstorms on Saturday ruin your weekend; there are plenty of great events taking place all around town that no storm can sour!

A biggie event on Friday evening is the return of Charleston City Paper’s Movies in Marion Square. The premiere showing, which begins at sundown, is the feature film How To Train Your Dragon (PG). It's an adorable movie, lemme tell ya.

Friday night is also the home opening night for the Charleston RiverDogs. Minor league baseball is back in a major way, so be sure you make it out to The Joe. Wacky promotions and a Bill Murray sighting are both very real things on opening night--just saying.

Attention paddlers of all ages and skill levels: The 21st Annual East Coast Canoe and Kayak Festival is back and bigger than ever. The weekend-long event brings together paddling enthusiasts of all levels with world-renowned instructors and equipment manufacturers.

On Saturday, Monster Music and Cat’s Music will be celebrating the fourth annual Record Store Day, now a worldwide celebration of the culture and unique place independent record stores occupy nationally and in our local communities. Live music and all-day parties are set for both locations; be sure to check it out if you're a music lover.

The street-fair style Party for the Parks: Amusement on Avenue is back for its second year running on Saturday night. The evening benefiting the Charleston Parks Conservancy, so if you love the parks, beer, good food, silent and live auctions, and live performances, then this party is for you. Heads up: The event is for ages 21 and older.

There's no denying that Charleston is a foodie town, so if you're feeling hungry, swing by The Spice and Tea Exchange and experience cooking demonstrations and menu samplings from six of Charleston's most appreciated and innovative chefs. The weekend-long celebration is in honor of the shop's second anniversary.

On Sunday, the 4th Annual Chef's Potluck event featuring top Lowcountry chefs and fresh, homegrown ingredients is taking over The Pavillion at Middleton Place. Guests will be treated to an evening of food prepared by the best chefs, tasty local beers, a silent auction, and live music.
