Update September 23: The art, the vibe and the crowd at last night's Buzzworthy event at the Terrace Theater blended together beautifully to make for one special evening.

Participating artist and local Charlestonian, Marcus Amaker, posted his thoughts on last night's event as well as a few photographs taken throughout the night.

Hop over to his Tumblr and have a look.

First reporting: For those who love art, there's nothing like discovering new artists and their work, and a September pop-up gallery event promises to provide art collectors that thrill of discovery.

Buzzworthy will be a celebration of creativity through a one-night gallery event, introducing five artists who have never shown their work in Charleston before. From 7-10 p.m. on September 22nd, the Terrace Theater lobby will be filled with people enjoying food, fun and an interactive art experience in the unique space.

 The artists include:

  • Blowtorch mixed media artist Walker Babington, Baltimore, Md., and San Francisco, Calif.
  • Maryanna Williams, reduction linocuts, of Greensboro, N.C.
  • Shellie Mitchell, mixed media, Charlotte, N.C.
  • Marcus Amaker, collages, Charleston, S.C.
  • Leslie McKellar, photography, Charleston, S.C.

Although two of the artists will be familiar to the Charleston audience, Buzzworthy will be the debut for their fine art work. The other artists are creating work and traveling to the Lowcountry for this one-night special event, and all artists will have pieces available for purchase.

In addition, the Terrace's legendary beer, wine and food concessions will be available, and mixed media artist Walker Babington will demo his "blowtorch drawing" method! Guests can celebrate their own creativity with a pop-up portrait studio with photographer Jason Layne, enjoy some food and great music, and find some new art to collect.

The Beehive is based in Charleston, S.C. and its founding principle is “celebrating creativity.” This motto acts as a guide in developing relationships and programs with other companies and the community at large through promotion, events, and creative workshops.
