North Charleston theater to play 'The Hobbit' movie in double 48 FPS speed

The next installment of the Middle Earth epic film craze arrives on December 14 with the movie adaptation of  J.R.R. Tolkien's work, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey".

Although the movie will start to play nationwide on Thursday, December 13, at midnight, not all showings will be equal.

Most will be shown at the standard 24 frame-per-second rate, but a select 450 theaters will be showing the film in double-detail 48 FPS  speed, and 3D to boot.

So far only two South Carolina theaters have made the honor, and only one in the Charleston area, the North Charleston Charles Towne Square Stadium 18

Want to save your spot? As of yesterday tickets are on pre-sale, the Regal isn't yet on the local list, you can, however, get advanced tickets at Cinebarre and the Carmike James Island theaters.

The Hobbit is being made into a trilogy with ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ following on December 13, 2013, and ’The Hobbit: There and Back Again’ on July 18, 2014.
