It's April and the Lowcountry Strawberry Festival is nearly here

It's April and that means it's growing season again in the Lowcountry and, yes, it also means it's strawberry season.

Perhaps the best example of that is the return of the annual Lowcountry Strawberry Festival at Boone Hall Plantation on Saturday and Sunday (the 17th and 18th.) And it seems like the planners are pretty excited too as they seem confidant they'll best last year's attendance record of 10,500.

The plantation is located on the outer edges of Mount Pleasant on U.S. 17.

Here's details about it from their Web site:

Saturday April 17th - 10am-6pm; Sunday April 18th - 12noon-6pm

Admission - Adults - $5 Children 3-12 - $3; 2 and Under Admitted Free With Adult

The Lowcountry Strawberry Festival at Boone Hall Plantation continues to be one of the most popular events held in the South Carolina Lowcountry each spring. The 2009 edition set a new attendance record with over 10,500 guests of all ages in attendance. As the popularity of this festival grows, Boone Hall is committed to meeting the challenge of growing the event as well.
The marketing phrase, "bigger and better," often is overused, but the 2010 version of this two day family festival, promises to deliver.

This year, The Lowcountry Strawberry Festival introduces "Farm Land," which will be staged in the area used in the fall for The Boone Hall Pumpkin Patch.  Main features of this dynamic addition to the event will include magic shows, pig races, the largest jump pillow in the state, animals kids love to feed, and a play area. Check the lower right side of this page for scheduled show times of staged events.

The number of amusement rides continues to grow along with a number of games. (See list on the lower right side of this page)  There will be juggling, face painting, and more musical performers than ever before. The popular Pie Eating and Recipe Contests return, with winners walking away with some great prizes. The list goes on and on. Entries for the Pie Eating Contests will be taken at the event.

And no visit to Boone Hall during this festival would be complete without a chance for the family to pick their own strawberries from our U-Pick fields. Covers were used to protect this year's strawberry crop from unusually cold temperatures, so our fields should be ripe and ready. Strawberries will be paid for by the pound.

U-Picking of strawberries is very popular at Boone Hall in the spring with families, school groups, and visitors from all parts of the state. Strawberries from our U-Pick fields should be available this year until June. For current U-Pick info, call our Produce Information Line at 843-856-5366.

A number of exhibits and retail vendors will be on hand at the event as well. Interested exhibit and retail vendors should contact jenniferc@boonehallplantation.com.

Boone Hall wants to again thank our very loyal sponsors, BB&T Bank and Pepsi, whose support help make this event possible for all who attend to enjoy
