First reporting: This Valentine’s Day, forget the cliches and take the love of your life to the roller derby 2011 season-opener.

The Lowcountry High Rollers kick off the new year in a double-header packed with all the fishnetted, hip-checking action you love. The All-Stars take on Mother State Roller Girls all the way from Richmond. But first the Bruisin’ Betties kick off the action with a bout against the Appalachian RollerGirls from Boone, N.C.

Join the High Rollers Sunday, February 13th at The Citadel's McAlister Field House (171 Moultrie Street) in downtown Charleston. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., and the first bout starts at 1 p.m. The All-Stars take the track at 2:30 p.m.

In addition to derby action will be DJs and live entertainment from Homespun Hoops, and a raffle with great schwag from our sponsors. Keep partying with the HighRollers afterward at Jimbo’s Rock Lounge at 1662 Savannah Highway with rock band Numb909.

Bout admission is $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Children 10 and younger get in free. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Coalition for Equal Rights, which fights discrimination and intolerance of any kind.

Advance tickets can be purchased from any roller girl, East West Health Arts and Hot Wheels on James Island; Red’s Icehouse; City Lights Coffee and the Recovery Room downtown; Tin Roof in West Ashley; and EVO Pizzeria in North Charleston. Regular and VIP tickets are also available online.
