Fresh Brewed monthly series bring locals together (Update: Coming up)

Update January 6, 2011: Just an update that the Artist of the Month featuring Calvin Blassingame kicks off tomorrow night and the deadline to register for Art 101 ceramic classes is today.

First Report: Fresh Brewed Coffee House has been bringing more and more interesting events to its downtown Myrtle Beach venue. This January is the start of multiple regular monthly series on a variety of subjects. 

The first series highlights local Horry/Georgetown County visual artists each month as the Artist of the Month. Artist of the Month exhibitions start with an opening reception, which is held on the first Saturday of every month from 4 to 7 p.m. After the opening reception, the artist's work remains on display at Fresh Brewed Coffee House for the month.

Art of Business is a professional development series for artists, musicians, or anyone wanting to learn more about business. Art of Business programs/workshops take place on the second Tuesday of every month from 2 to 4 p.m.

ART 101 is a series for those who want to learn the basics about different art mediums and how to put what they learn to use. Classes are part instruction and part creation with a variety of class options available throughout 2012.

January Artist of the Month: Calvin Blassingame

171Calvin Blassingame, a native of Greenville, South Carolina, has lived in Myrtle Beach since 1991. During that time he has established himself as a noted artist in the southeastern United States. He has displayed art in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina as well as having admirers in New York and California. Calvin's current collected works include interpretations of the human form, jazz selections, afro-gospel selections and depictions of life in the African-American church. 

Calvin is also the president and co-founder of The Roundtable Art Group, which focuses on bringing further awareness to the arts along the Grand Strand. The Roundtable Art Group continues to spread its influence within the community by working closely with charities, hosting art shows, and holding art workshops.

January Art of Business: Tax Tips

Learn valuable tax tips for artists, musicians, and small business owners from the owner of Taxpectations: Wendy Cassera. Taxpectations is a full-service accounting, consulting, payroll, and tax firm catering to a wide variety of clients from individuals to small and medium sized businesses.

January ART 101: Ceramics 101 

Ceramics 101 is a two-session class where you will learn the basics of working with clay. Be ready to have some fun and get your hands dirty as you create your own hand-built piece. The first session is Saturday, January 14 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the second session will be on the following Saturday, January 21 at the same time slot.
