Update December 12, 2011: With the community still reeling from the weekend news of Bennett's reassignment at CCU, the FCS Senior Scout Bowl is still on the schedule this week.

As we first reported, Bennett played a key role in bringing the Senior Scout Bowl to Myrtle Beach. When it was announced he would coach the South team, nobody would have guessed it would likely be his last time coaching college kids in Horry County. Despite the jilting, Bennett fully intends on participating in the game. Bittersweet that a handful of Coastal Carolina seniors will be playing as well. The Sun News has more details about which CCU players were selected for the FCS Senior Scout Bowl as well as reaction from the Bowl co-founder, George St. Lawrence. Read the details here.

First Report: The Second Annual FCS Senior Scout Bowl will take place on December 17th at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium bring some of the top seniors in FCS Division football to the Grand Strand so they can show off their talents for football fans and NFL scouts.

“These players have worked extremely hard and have earned the honor to participate in this scouting bowl,” said George St. Lawrence, co-founder of the FCS Senior Scout Bowl, “The FCS Senior Scout Bowl Committee takes pride in its selection process and since being founded just over a year ago, four players selected to play in the FCS Senior Scout Bowl have moved on to play in the NFL.”

The event will feature 86 players in a ‘North vs. South’ all-star format with Coastal Carolina University's Coach (and Internet sensation) Dave Bennett coaching the South team. Bennett attended the scout bowl last year and approached organizers about moving it to the Myrtle Beach area.

“Coach Bennett was very persuasive in encouraging us to move the scout bowl to Myrtle Beach, and it truly is a perfect fit. We’re excited to be calling the Grand Strand home,” said St. Lawrence, “And while it is in December, it gives the players a chance to see Myrtle Beach and enjoy some of the amenities in their down time.”

Securing sporting events like the FCS Senior Scout Bowl continues to be a focus of efforts to attract visitors to the Grand Strand during the shoulder-season months, as athletes often bring friends or family with them to the area. The city of Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes said the event will definitely bring off-season tourism to our area but cautioned it may be modest since this is the first year our area is hosting the event. Last year, the Senior Scout Bowl took place in Ramapo, New Jersey and was broadcast on FOX College Sports.. Read CBS Sports coverage of last year's event here.
