First ever South Carolina Flag Day celebration today

It was 150 years ago today that South Carolina's General Assembly approved Robert Barnwell Rhett design for South Carolina's iconic blue and white palmetto tree and crescent national flag.

In honor of the first annual South Carolina Flag Day, Fort Moultrie will host a program to honor the flag and the holiday this afternoon. Admission to the fort will be waived for the entire day.

The Post and Courier has done a nice job detailing the flag's creation, inspiration and legacy; read it here.
