Charleston Moves is celebrating Bike to Work Day by inviting any and all to come ride with your fellow Charlestonians during Bike2Work Over the Ashley on Friday, May 20th, at 7:45 a.m.

Participants are asked to arrive in the South Winderemere Shopping Center parking lot on their bicycles no later than 7:45 am. Marshals will organize riders and distribute items provided by Earthfare and Normandy Farms Bakery. There will be a short program promptly at 8 a.m., after which the ride over the Ashley, escorted by officers of the Charleston Police Department, will get underway.

Here's the official bike route: across Folly Road to Albemarle via the West Ashley Greenway; right on Folly (under police escort) across the bridge and Lockwood Bloulevard to Bee Street. Current plans call for riders to disperse at that point to their places of employment. There is no provision for a return ride due to the unpredictability of riders’ individual schedules.

Charleston Moves organized this event in order to support Mayor Riley's proposal to re-dedicate one of four lanes on the Legare Bridge to carry pedestrian and bicycle traffic, more or less the way the Ravenel Bridge accommodates bike/ped traffic over the Cooper. Both the Mayor and Chairman Pryor are scheduled to say a few words at the rally before Friday's ride.
