The Battery looked bigger and faster at the start of the match against the young College of Charleston Cougars; and after the first half of play they were certainly proving to be just that.
Early in the contest, Cougar keeper Alex Young sprinted off his line to cut off the angle and force Dane Kelly to miss an opportunity from close range. The Battery continued to attack and Kelly tallied two in the 3-0 victory.
About midway through the half, Battery midfielder Quinton Griffith ripped a shot top right to give the Battery a 1-0 lead. Shortly after, Dane Kelly received a nice slot pass from Ryan Richter in the box and finished it beautifully into the left-side netting for a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
Richter and Kelly connected again in the second half of play to give the Battery a 3-0 advantage. Richter broke free down the right side of the pitch and played a nice cross in that Kelly headed home for the goal.
The Battery moved the ball well and capitalized on scoring opportunities to handle this game with ease.
Next up the Battery will travel to Clemson, SC on Saturday to take on Clemson University in a preseason match at 3pm.
