After 18 years of effort a dual-state group is nearly finished with a low-profile effort to retrace the exact border between North Carolina and South Carolina.

And as is often the case when retracing a memory that has gone hazy, the story of the effort is filled with incidents of odd discovery and those that have found themselves living square upon a state line.
