Sea Haven program provides safe place for youth in crisis

Several weeks ago, North Myrtle Beach proclaimed it Safe Place Week, and Sea Haven for Youth is the local agency that administers the National Safe Place program.

The Safe Place program is designed to help youth, ages 13 to 21, who face neglect, abuse, bullying or other crisis situations.  Local businesses and organizations partner to provide a location for them to go to request help.  When they arrive, a Sea Haven volunteer is called.  The teen or young adult is given immediate information, assistance, care, or safe place to stay.

Click here to read a great write-up providing more details on how the program works.  Click here to see a list of Safe Place locations throughout Horry County.  Scroll down, the list is at the bottom of the page, or you can have a look at our map below.  We're keeping the map and corresponding list updated as new locations are added.

This program is a true example of a community coming together to give teens and young adults in desperate situations a place to take the first step and ask for help.  Imagine how you'd feel if you knew you were in danger but didn't know where to go to make a change.  We ask that if you know of an individual, family, or organization that would find this information helpful, please pass it on.
