Charleston's closure of incinerator, move to recycling already called a dollar saver
Remember how concerns were high about not only how Charleston County would manage to recycle 40% of trash following the closure of the incinerator, but also how it would manage the costs?
Well, nearly two years in the program is already being called a success, with the cost per ton of trash having been lowered from $49 to $34.
The Post and Courier has a report on the news; read it here.
And with efforts to expand recycling still heavily under way (see: yard waste, business recycling, single stream), it's a scenario that should get better yet.
