As costs cut nationwide, 147 jobs trimmed at Charleston Air Force Base
147 civilian positions at the Charleston Air Force Base are being trimmed from the books as part of a nation-wide trimming of Department of Defense costs.
But leaders are putting a it's-not-so-bad spin, notting that 97 jobs are vacant and that the the affected 50 workers are either taking early retirement or the base will attempt to shift them to other jobs.
