How the state plans to balance the impending $1 billion budget deficit

To the utter delight of school children in South Carolina, cutting 10 days off of the school year is one option being explored as a possible way to help balance out the projected $1 billion deficit the state budget faces in 2011.
Other ideas being tossed around are combining state agencies, sticking it to Medicaid patients and doctors by lowering doctor's pay while eliminating hospice care, prescription drug coverage and and non-emergency transportation.
The Post and Courier has a post on the proposals set out by the House Ways and Means Committee and promises more on the subject in tomorrow's edition.
