The retirement of Mt. Pleasant Police Chief Harry Sewell was announced in mid November, and now town officials have hired a new head.

On Monday Town Council voted unanimously to hire Major Carl Ritchie.

Ritchie has been with the town's force for 24 years.

Sewell's retirement is effective December 31.
