South Carolina tourism leaders have formed a, "South Carolina 2012 committee to promote the state and its $15 billion tourism industry."

The aim is to promote South Carolina at the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Charlotte on September 3 - 6, 2012 as not only a tourist destination but also a place for business. According to News Talk Radio WHIO, the SC tourism promoters will have performers and give away free peaches during the convention. As part of the efforts, WHIO reports that, 

The DNC has booked some rooms in York County and re-enactors from nearby Historic Brattonsville and Catawba Indians in full regalia will visit those hotels during breakfast on opening day of the convention on Monday, Sept. 3.

Besides the tourism push by state reps, the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce (MBACC) will be setting up a hospitality venue for folks in the media who are in Charlotte to cover the DNC.  The Sun News received a statement from the MBACC's lawyer regarding the trip, which read in part,

“This effort is similar in concept and scope to other past chamber events that attract attendees from national and international media including, but not limited to, presidential debates and events held at Charlotte Motor Speedway."
