Image by Flickr user peterme Charleston has seen a wave of restoration and new construction, but along with it many of the older generations have been priced out of the community.
While Charleston has seen much benefit from the restoration and new construction of homes and other buildings (aka gentrification) that is happening throughout the Peninsula, it's also caused much chaffing as many of the older and less well off families have been forced out along with the higher values.
And for a city that in 1980 was 60% black, the percentage has today been cut in half, causing concern about the culture that is being lost and a population that has seen a disproportionate impact.
ABC News 4 has a nice video piece on the concerns (thought it could do with fewer "animations"); watch it here.
