Update August 5:
More details have become available in the case - the victim, a 54-year-old Charleston man was attempting to untangle his casting net from the James Island County Park fishing pier when he lost his footing and fell into the water.
A witness reported that the man lost his footing and struggled to stay above the surface. After a few seconds he disappeared beneath the water, the police report says.
The Post and Courier reports that at around 8:05 p.m. last night, authorities recovered the body of a swimmer who apparently slipped from or dove off a dock and drowned at the James Island County Park.
