So, this isn't exactly Charleston specific news, but it's huge news in the sporting world none-the-less.

The No. 19 ranked South Carolina football squad defeated the No. 1 ranked defending national champs Alabama on Saturday, 35-21.

Alabama (5-1, 2-1) had won 19 consecutive games and had not given up 35 points since November 3rd, 2007. The major win for South Carolina (4-1, 2-1) bumped their ranking up to 10th in the nation in this week's Associated Press poll.

The State's Josh Kendall has a nice post game write-up on the Gamecocks' weekend victory; read it here.
