Headaches reported in connection with downtown gas leak (updated)

Update June 28, 1:44 p.m.:

The gas leak has been repaired and traffic patterns should return to normal by about 1:45 p.m., authorities say.

Update June 28, 12:44 p.m.:

The gas leak on Wentworth Street has forced the evacuation of a number of downtown businesses.

SCE&G is on the scene working on the leak and estimate they'll have the problem patched up by 1:30 p.m. Traffic is currently being directed away from the area.

First reporting:

The Post and Courier is reporting that firefighters are on the scene of a gas leak at 74 Wentworth Street. There was another gas leak in the same area just ten days prior.

Several people have reported headaches due to the leak and motorists are being advised to avoid the area.
