North Charleston's Academic Magnet High topped the U.S. News & World Report's list as the best magnet school in the nation.

The rankings is based on whether students’ scores exceed statistical expectations given their poverty, the school’s disadvantaged students outscore state averages, and students’ participation in and performance on Advanced Placement tests.
