Update May 31, 2012: WPDE caught up with Lofton and reports that he is more than halfway to his goal.

A large part of this is thanks to the recent Frontier Communications announcement. For more information on the 500 job deadline, see the first report below the video.

First Report: Brad Lofton started his new job at the Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Council just a few weeks ago with a simple promise of creating 500 jobs within 18 months.

According to this post on The Sun News Opinion Blog the chairman of the MBREDC board of directiors, Doug Wendel, intends to hold him to that promise.

The MBREDC has spent the last year regrouping after firing their former CEO, Hugh Owens, and searching for his replacement. The Sun News has nice coverage in this 2010 story. Horry County has been patient with the MBREDC. With ever-shrinking budgets in the tight economy, it seems as if the new combination of Wendel and Lofton may be the final hope for the organization.
