Private garbage haulers loses federal lawsuit against Horry County
In 2009, Horry County passed an ordinance that requires garbage collected in the county limits to be taken only to the Horry County landfill.
Reasons cited for this was avoiding liability for contamination of out-of-area landfills. Private garbage hauling companies submit that it has more to do with the per-ton fees collected by the Horry County landfill that go to the Solid Waste Authority.
