Charleston County Council is expected to sign off on a deal tonight to purchase a 100,000-square-foot building in North Charleston that would consolidate all operations of the Sherrif's Office under one roof.

Currently, there are units spread throughout buildings and mobile office units in both Mount Pleasant and North Charleston, with substations in Ravenel, Mount Pleasant, McClellanville and James Island. However, if County Council approves tonight's purchase, the entire office will take over a 10-acre tract located at Leeds Avenue and Azalea Drivethat is being vacated by the South Carolina Electric & Gas Company.

The Post and Courier has more on the proposed purchase and the benefits that will entail; read it here.
