A tradition lasting over 130 years, the Democratic political rally known as The Galivants Ferry Stump Festival kicks off today.

Galivants Ferry, a prime territory in the middle of South Carolina's new 7th Congressional District, plays a major role in the political process this year. The Stump Festival is sort of a political pep rally for the Democrats letting them literally get up on a stump and speak their minds and ramp up the crowd. This year's keynote speaker is U.S. Virgin Islands Representative, Dr.  Donna Christensen. The event kicks off at 4:30 p.m. with music, dancing, and food. The speaking rally begins at 6 p.m.

The 2012 Stump will be held at Pee Dee Farms, the community’s century-old general store. Galivants Ferry, which is on the National Registry of Historic Districts, is located on Highway 501 where it crosses the Little Pee Dee River.
