Update October 7: The Medicine Man came to town last night for the Lowcountry Local First's 2nd Annual Revival.
A massive parade down King Street with New Orleans inspired music, dancing, a whole lot of Halloween costumes, singing and protesting kicked off the event. Onlookers who had no idea the Revival was happening were in utter disbelief at the incredible showing, which ended up outside of the Music Farm.
The Medicine Man Show, lead by a platform booted, leather jacketed, top hat wearing man calling himself "Doctor Trick in a Box" came to town to sell quick fixes to sway people away from the local mom and pop shops. Hyping up his dastardly followers to shop at chain stores, the show kicked off inside the Farm with the bad doctor "curing" people of their urges to buy local with elixirs.
Soon, however, the Lowcountry Local First preacherman came out to save the crowd's souls and save the local economy. A musical numbers featuring Rachel Kate, backed by a full on choir, wowed the crowd with a soulful and energetic rendition of "Stay Outta Them Chain Stores."
Lowcountry Local First president Karalee Nielsen took the stage at the end of the show, wrapping up the exciting event with these words: "We have to do everything we can to keep Charleston unique and amazing instead of like "anywhere U.S.A...vote with your dollars and buy local."
First reporting: After the great success of last year's Lowcountry Local First Revival, the fantastic group that supports and promotes local business has a second event planned for October 6th.
The event, which will take place at the Music Farm from 6 to 10 p.m., is taking on a “medicine man” theme with a bit of a renaissance flair.
The evening will begin with a 6 p.m. parade from Barsa to the Music Farm and will start up outside with a street fair of local businesses and food from Charleston's local food trucks. Once inside, guests will be treated to an old fashioned medicine show, a freak show, and a performance from local musicans and DJ Cassidy & The Kid which will be followed by an after party featuring "specialty elixirs."
Tickets to the Revival are on sale now. Get 'em here.
