The Center for Birds of Prey was originally founded in 1991 to provide medical care to injured birds of prey. It has since expanded its programs to include educational programs for students and visitors, an Oil Spill Response Facility, captive breeding, research and conservation. The center is located on 152 acres in Awendaw (4872 Seewee Road)—20 miles from downtown Charleston and 40 miles from Georgetown.
